San Luis Council Appoints New Chief of Police

Chief Higgins

The San Luis City Council has appointed a Chief of Police during its regular council meeting on Wednesday, February 10, 2016. Mayor Sanchez stated that “He is pleased with the Council’s selection and reiterated that with Chief Higgins, San Luis will still be one of the safest cities in Arizona.”
Craig Higgins has been selected as the new Chief of Police and officially took office Thursday, February 11, 2016. Chief Higgins comes to office with a total of 28 years of law enforcement experience. During his career, Chief Higgins has worked in managing administrative and operational activates across federal, state, local, and military environments. Chief Higgins served as a mentor and development specialist in Afghanistan and returned to Yuma, Arizona in August of 2015.
Chief Higgins is a graduate from Florida State University where he completed his Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminology. Chief Higgins also possesses several other certifications, trainings, and executive programs.
Chief Higgins was a supervisor from 2007 to 2011 with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) where he did operations within San Luis on a regular basis. Craig Higgins retired from DEA on April 2014.
Chief Higgins is proud to be serving the citizens of San Luis and intends to work closely with the community. As the Chief of Police, Chief Higgins plans to enhance the current operations and reinforce community policing. Chief Higgins can be contacted at 928-341-2420.
