PDs from San Luis AZ and MEX Working Together for Law Enforcement Torch Run

Special Olympics

The annual Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics took place Wednesday May 4th at 8:00AM where several Law Enforcement Agencies throughout Yuma County participated.

The run started in San Luis Rio Colorado Sonora Mexico where Mexican Police Chief Julio Valenzuela along with his team handed over the torch to San Luis Police Chief Craig Higgins. An initial ceremony took place at the San Luis Port of Entry where Yuma Sector Border Patrol Chief Anthony Porvaznik, Adult Probation Chief Sandi Hoppough, and coordinators from the Yuma Police and San Luis Police were present.

The mission to carry out the torch run to the finish of the first leg which ended at the Yuma Quartermaster Depot Historic State Park in Yuma, AZ was a success.

Chief Higgins states he is “happy the two new Chiefs from San Luis AZ and MEX will have the opportunity to work together for a safer community.”
