On Tuesday March 8th at around 7:40 PM, the San Luis Police Department along with the San Luis Fire Department responded to 9th Avenue and Juan Sanchez Boulevard regarding a two vehicle collision.
When emergency units arrived, they found a female driver with severe injuries. The other vehicle driver had moderate injuries, as well.
San Luis Fire Personnel had to use extricating equipment to remove the female driver from her vehicle. Both drivers were transported to Yuma Regional Medical Center by San Luis Fire Ambulance Personnel. The female driver was later flown to a Phoenix hospital due to severe head trauma.
The driver of the second vehicle was identified as 25-year-old Gerardo Quintero. Quintero was later released from Yuma Regional Medical Center and booked into the Yuma County Detention Center for driving under the influence of alcohol, possession of narcotic drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia and several other charges.
