On October 12, 2016 the San Luis City Council approved Ordinance No. 358 on Personal Dog Kennel Permits. Under the Ordinance, people owning more than six dogs per household will have to purchase a dog kennel approved by the City of San Luis. Dog owners are not allowed to have more than twelve dogs. The new ordinance will go into effect on April 1, 2017.
The focus of this ordinance is to make sure that all dogs are cared for. The ordinance requires an annual permit and the ability to revoke the permit if the standards for a personal kennel are not met. Service animals for the disabled will not be counted. Puppies up to age 4 months are not counted so that if a dog has a litter, there will be sufficient time to find homes for the puppies.
Fees for the permit will be on a future City Council agenda. City staff will be recommending a small fee of $60.00 per year to help pay for the new administrative costs.
