San Luis PD assists Border Patrol with Suicidal Subject

At about 2:45 PM, Officers from the San Luis Police Department responded to assist United States Border Patrol at County 21st and Levee Road in regards to a male subject who had been fleeing from Border Patrol Agents. The subject went into a fence area and climbed to the top of a power pole. The subject was threatening to jump and was making suicidal comments.

The power pole where the subject had climbed on to did have live electrical power at the time. The Arizona Public Service Company responded to the scene and was able to shut down the power in order to safely bring down the subject from the top. A San Luis Police negotiator spoke with the subject for about two hours and was able to convince him to safely get into a bucket lift.

Once the subject was safely brought down from the pole, he was treated by San Luis Fire Department Medics for minor injuries to his hands and possible dehydration. The subject was later transported to Yuma Regional Medical Center for further treatment.
