San Luis PD Locates Stolen Vehicle; 1 Arrested

At about 7:50 AM, San Luis Police Officers located a stolen vehicle that had been reported by Somerton Police Department earlier this morning. The vehicle was observed going south bound on Main Street as it attempted to go into Mexico. San Luis Police Officers attempted to stop the vehicle but the driver of the vehicle refused to stop for marked patrol units. The driver made several aggressive moves towards officers with his vehicle as he attempted to ram the patrol units.

The driver of vehicle committed numerous criminal traffic violations that ranged from speeding to unlawful flight from police.  Several San Luis Police units followed the driver of the stolen vehicle up to County 19th and Highway 95 where he lost control of the vehicle and rolled over.

SLPD Officer’s took the driver into custody and identified him as 20 year-old Manuel Edward Casas. San Luis Fire Department Personnel arrived on scene and treated the driver for minor injuries. The driver was transported to Yuma Regional Medical Center for further treatment. The driver is currently facing numerous charges at this time.

The Somerton Police Department, United States Border Patrol and the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene and assisted.
