San Luis PD Investigates a Three Vehicle Collision

On Friday April 21st at around 7:35 PM, the San Luis Police Department along with the San Luis Fire Department responded to Avenue H and Juan Sanchez Boulevard regarding a three vehicle collision.

When emergency units arrived, they found several good samaritans providing first aid to several victims that were injured.

A total of three vehicles with nine people were being treated by San Luis Fire Medical Personnel, Somerton Cocopah Ambulance and Rural Metro and transported several victims to Yuma Regional Medical Center. Two patients, 53 year old Maria Elena Correa Berumen and a 10 month old child who were both passengers in the same vehicle, were airlifted to Phoenix area hospital. Maria later passed away from her injuries as a result of this accident. The 10 month old child is still listed in critical but stable condition.

The injuries on the rest of the passengers and drivers ranged from critical to non-life threatening injuries.

The drivers of each vehicle were identified as 26 year old Edgar Luna, 35 year old Rocio Velarde and 19 year old Alondra Ceja.

The case is currently under investigation and alcohol does not appear to be a factor in this accident.
