The San Luis Police Department arrested a male subject who assaulted a police officer and at the same time made several attempts to reach for the officer’s duty weapon.
SLPD attempted arrested 23 year old Miguel Angel Magallanes for criminal littering at the 1200 Block of C Street. As the officer was placing Miguel under arrest he turned around and attempted to grab the police officer’s duty weapon.
The officer was able to hold on to his duty weapon as Miguel attempted several times to remove it from the holster. The suspect began strike the officer several times on the body and head.
Miguel then fled from officers who pursued him along several backyards and ultimately were able to use a Taser to control him and place him under arrest at the 1600 Block of San Luis Lane.
Miguel was booked into the Yuma County Detention Center for Aggravated Assault on a Peace Officer, Resisting Arrest, Endangerment, Escape in the Third Degree and Criminal Littering.
