SLPD Arrests Suspect in Attempted 2nd Degree Murder Charge

On December 30th, 2016 at about 4:45 pm, the San Luis Police Department responded to a call for assistance in reference to a disturbance at the 900 block of North Hidalgo Avenue.

While officers were responding, the victim stated that a male subject later identified as Alfonzo Enrique Marquez 39 years of age, had poured gasoline onto the victim’s clothing and had tried to light the victim on fire. Alfonzo fled the scene prior to police arriving.

Officers were able to locate and take into custody Alfonzo at his residence following several leads. Alfonzo was later booked into the Yuma County Adult Detention Facility on multiple charges which included Attempted 2nd Degree Murder and Aggravated Assault.

On January 4th, Alfonzo was arraigned before the Honorable Judge Juan Manuel Guerrero and was formally charged for two counts of aggravated assault with a cash bond amount of $50,000.
